Find solutions fast & easy!

Getting your older computer to run better then new can happen and for a lot less money then you think. I have a computer from 2002 and it still runs faster then some of the new ones! There are many things that can slow your computer down, but first, lets see if your computer will be worth the time or money to work on. To determine this, right click on "My Computer" (some systems do not have the shortcut on. You will need to left click your start button and find it on the upper right corner). After right clicking on "My Computer", left click on "Properties". Take note of the Operating System, Service Pack, CPU Type and Speed (ex Pentium IV 2.0Ghz), and the memory (ex 256mb or 1.0 GB). If your computer is not any class of at least a Pentium IV 1.0 Ghz (Celeron, AMD etc.) or does not have Windows 2000, XP, or Vista, you would truely be better off just buying a new computer. Most of today's software, particularly Insternet Security, requires those operating systems and that processor or higher.

In order to keep prices down, many computers from the big manufacturers often came with the minimum memory required to run. Computers from 2005 or older may lack enough memory to properly run the software of today. Most Internet Security software require 512MB of ram. Look at your notes to see if you have at least this much. If it's less, you must upgrade your memory. Most memory upgrades require some technical knowledge. They usually cost around $100-150 installed (to get to 1GB). If you have 512mb you should still upgrade to 1GB as your computer will run much smoother with that in. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AT LEAST 1GB RAM, YOUR COMPUTER WILL RUN SLOWER THEN WHAT IT SHOULD. Everything else you do will help, but will not help enough to make you feel like your in a new computer.

Now that we know your hardware and Operating System is ready, let's get to work on the rest. Malicious software is the #1 cause of computer slowness. See Eliminate malicious software problems and immunize your computer from them to ensure your computer is not infected by a virus or any other malware. Once that is complete you are now ready for the next step.

There are millions of software/programs. It is impossible to fully clean your system without knowing the exact software running on your pc. Some products however, you can clean up a lot of standard products that are running and do not need to be.
